About This Micro-Credential

This micro-credential is designed to prepare social workers, human resource managers, university recruiters, health-care professionals and others to work more effectively with veterans transitioning to non-military workplaces and settings.

Learn to assist veterans with finding, accessing and utilizing appropriate support services in the areas of employment, education, housing, health, mental health and more.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand military culture, reasons for entering military services and effects of military training, branch rank and military hierarchy.
  • Recognize experiences common to veterans and family members, and challenges veterans face as they transition from the military.
  • Develop an awareness of effects of contemporary military experience.
  • Investigate the federal, state, community and non-profit resources and benefits available to support veterans, family members and survivors.
  • Comprehend trauma that may result in homelessness, addiction, mental illness, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and suicide.
  • Learn more deeply about one area impacting veterans that is of particular need and interest.
  • Identify and explore strategies for connecting with veterans and family members, and address how to advocate for veterans and family members.

  • PAD 501 - Human Resource Management
  • SWK 684 - Trauma-Focused Care
  • SWK 579 - Gerontology
  • HSC 510 - Trends and Cultural Issues in Healthcare
  • HSC 620 - Health Care Finance and Reimbursement
