Here's what you need to do to get started today!

Fill out the online private lesson request form. This is for new students only!
Based on your information and needs, we'll forward your information to the appropriate private lesson instructor. Have a specific instructor in mind? Let us know via the online private lesson request form.
One of our fantastic private lesson instructors will contact you, tell you a bit about him/herself, and discuss scheduling.
Once you have spoken with your instructor and determined a weekly lesson day and time, it's time to register! Simply register online (requires Visa/Mastercard credit card payment). If it is past the standard registration deadline, you may still register online or call the NKU Music Prep office at (859) 572-7737 for assistance. Before registering, make sure you are familiar with our policies.

Need an instrument?

NKU Music Preparatory does not provide instruments. If you are taking private lessons on piano, however, we do provide a piano for you to use while you are in your lesson; you should also have a piano at home. If you need to acquire any kind of instrument, please discuss this with your new private lesson instructor. All of our instructors would be glad to assist you in recommending rental and/or purchase options.

Fall Semester

Registration Period: July 1, 2023 – August 21, 2023
Fall Semester: August 28, 2023 – December 8, 2023
Make-Up Week: December 11–15, 2023
Recital: Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11am and 12:30pm in Greaves Concert Hall

Spring Semester

Registration Period: December 1, 2023 – January 1, 2024
Spring Semester: January 8, 2024 – April 26, 2024
Make-Up Week: April 29 – May 3, 2024
Recital: Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11am and 12:30pm in Greaves Concert Hall

Summer Term begins May 6, 2024

Please Note: A $25 registration fee is applied after the semester registration period ends. Payment plans are only available on items over $375.

Private Lesson Tuition

Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 Semesters (15-weeks) Tuition

30-minute lessons: $405 or two payments of $202.50
30-minute lessons with Junior Instructor: $330 (payment plan not available)
45-minute lessons: $607.50 or two payments of $303.75
60-minute lessons: $810 or two payments of $405

Summer Term 2024 (10-weeks) Tuition

30-minute lessons: $270 (payment plan not available)
30-minute lessons with Junior Instructor: $220 (payment plan not available)
45-minute lessons: $405 or two payments of $202.50
60-minute lessons: $540 or two payments of $270

Trial Lesson

A trial lesson may be arranged with any instructor at a rate of $30 per half hour:

Please contact the instructor directly to arrange a day and time for the trial lesson.
Contact the Prep office to pay for the trial lesson prior to the event.

Fees and Prorates

Registration Fee and Prorates: All students who register after the semester registration period will incur a $25 registration fee. Anyone registering for Private Lessons after the semester has begun will be prorated for the remaining weeks.

Additional Fees: Private lesson students should expect to purchase books/materials as recommended by their private teacher. Also, private lesson students may participate in a recital at the end of fall and spring semesters. Recitals are held in Greaves Hall and the Choir Room. Students who perform repertoire that require an accompanist should expect to pay $20, which covers a brief rehearsal on the day of the recital and the recital performance. If virtual, this covers the recorded accompaniment track.

Make-up Policy

Private-lesson make-up weeks are reserved for lessons due to instructor absences. Private-lesson instructor absences and private lessons (not classes, ensembles, etc.) scheduled on holidays will be made up. Missed student lessons are not eligible for make-up unless scheduled in advance (at least 24 hour notice) with the private lesson instructor. Canceled classes and ensembles cannot be made up. Private lessons canceled due to inclement weather are not required to be made up, but will be considered on a case-by-case basis between the student and the private lesson instructor. Private lesson students who exhibit a habit of canceling lessons may be asked to leave the program without refund.
