Currently, Dr. Danielle McDonald serves as the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Instructional Excellence, and Online Programs. In this role she oversees the implementation of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Innovation as well as NKU’s partnership with Risepoint. She also works directly with faculty as a liaison for the Provost’s Office and creates collaborations with faculty and staff to provide opportunities to engage in problem solving.
Danielle began her career at NKU in 2008. Since this time, she has had the privilege of serving in a variety of leadership opportunities including Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences; Provost Fellow; Assistant Department Chair for the Department of Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Organizational Leadership; Criminal Justice Program Coordinator; and Faculty Director for the Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project.
Dr. McDonald is a Professor of Criminal Justice. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Sociology from Virginia Tech, and dual bachelor degrees in Sociology and Psychology from West Virginia University. She has experience evaluating substance abuse programming in the correctional system as well as community-based programs for prevention and post release from the criminal justice system. Her research interests include the areas of community corrections and reentry, women who have been incarcerated, mental health and substance abuse treatment programs, as well as service learning and student philanthropy. In 2017, she published a textbook titled Race, Class, Gender and Criminal Justice: Examining Barriers to Justice. A second edition of this textbook with coauthor Cherie Dawson-Edwards was published in 2022 and the authors are in the process of completing the third edition.
