Zelda

Hi! I am Zelda Hughes-Howard- the Honors and Special Populations advisor in the First Year Hub. Having taught a combined total of 20 years at both secondary and post- secondary levels, helping others on their way to becoming their best selves by deciding on a career and working to obtain it has become a part of who I am- an educator. My roles may have changed but my desire to help has remained the same.

Prior to coming to NKU, I worked in a variety of high school settings- private, public, Title 1, urban and rural. I have taught in traditional 4-year universities and technical colleges and even owned a daycare center. My career has truly been at every level of education as an instructor, care provider, mentor teacher, district lead teacher, curriculum writer and an advisor. I earned my Bachelor of Art degree from the University of Louisville and my master’s degree in Education from Georgia College and State University. I even continue to accumulate additional college credits because of my love for knowledge and also to remind me what being a student feels like! 😊

Here at NKU, within The Hub, I will be working with Honors and Special Populations helping students navigate their first year of being a Norse. I am excited to work with incoming first year students. Their enthusiasm is contagious. The excitement of starting a new journey swells my soul.
In my spare time, as a true Georgia girl, I enjoy fishing, being in the woods admiring nature and as odd as it may seem, I love watching the ominous clouds roll in just before a thunderstorm. My husband and I have 4 adult children and 1 daughter-in-law- Kristafer (Kayla), Avery, Taylor and Trinity, 3 bunnies (Oliver, Kovu and Arlo), and 2 fur granddogs (Kali and Oscar) and a parrot fish named Yennifer.
