The NKU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is actively involved in the community through several outreach projects (many involving our SAACS student group).

Our outreach efforts were pioneered by emeritus faculty member Dr. Vernon Hicks, the 2008 Cincinnati Chemist of the Year.

Our work in the community focuses largely on P-12 education, including:

  • Working with middle school and high school science teachers to develop classroom learning materials
  • Conducting outreach activities in local libraries as part of National Chemistry Week
  • Judging science fairs at area schools
  • Participating in science workshops and summer camps in conjunction with NKU CINSAM
