May 8, 2023 - Northern Kentucky University honored over 1,900 graduates over two ceremonies in the university’s 51st Commencement on Sunday. 

Highlights of the ceremonies include:

  • President Bonita Brown awarding her husband, Wesley Brown, his diploma. Wesley graduated from the School of the Arts with a degree in photography.
  • Richard “Dick” Murgatroyd received an honorary Doctor of Education degree. Murgatroyd has dedicated his life of service to the public, the arts, to education and NKU. Bringing a distinguished background in television, Murgatroyd was an NKU faculty member for 12 years, has endowed a scholarship at the university and received the Lincoln Award in 1999. Murgatroyd has inspired countless students and continues to leave an indelible impact on the university.
  • Distinguished Chase College of Law alum Jill Meyer (’96) gave the commencement addresses. Meyer will soon be finishing up her time as president and chief executive officer of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.
  • Mary Stallings, a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Grades Education served as student speaker along with Jacky Romo, magna cum laude graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management.
  • The Salmon P. Chase College of Law celebrated its commencement on Friday night. During that ceremony, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. 

There are now more than 77,000 Northern Kentucky University graduates living and working in every corner of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and across the globe.
