Be a Mentor!

The NCB mentoring program is a peer mentorship program designed by the offices of First-Generation Student Initiatives and Commuter Student Initiatives for any first-year student who is a first generation and/or commuter student to develop self-authorship, leadership and communication skills to build a sense of community and belonging.

What will YOU get by being an NCB mentor?

  • Develop and grow strong academic, leadership, and professional skills.
  • Establish networks among key constituents within the institution and surrounding community to develop resourceful relationships.
  • Foster personal recognition, growth, and understanding.
  • Enhance advocacy for self and others.
  • Strengthen resource literacy.
  • Advance a sense of community at NKU for first generation and commuter students.

Mentoring Requirements

To ensure the success of the mentoring program, we ask that all mentors:

  • Be enrolled at Northern Kentucky University for both Fall and Spring semesters
  • Have and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5
  • Actively engage in at least two different NCB events each semester,
  • Participate in training and development opportunities at the beginning of and throughout each semester
  • Possess effective communication, leadership, and active listening skills
  • Have a passion for improving the Northern Kentucky University (NKU) Campus climate for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Serve as a representative and liaison for Norse Center for Belonging, First Generation Student Initiatives, and Commuter Student Initiatives
