Please mark your calendar for this year’s Meet, Greet, and Grab an Idea event, which will take place on Monday, August 13th from 9:00-11:30 am.
Our keynote speaker for 2018’s Meet, Greet, and Grab an Idea (MGGI) will be Dr. Sharon Mader, Library Dean Emeritus and Professor at the University of New Orleans. She will introduce participants to the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, adopted by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) in 2016. The Framework presents an updated and expanded definition of information literacy with an emphasis on multiple “core concepts” related to information use, scholarship, and research. In the interactive presentation, participants will learn how information literacy is connected to student learning and will develop ideas for how to integrate information literacy concepts into their courses.
This year, MGGI will serve as a kickoff event for NKU’s new Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Part of the SACS reaffirmation process, a QEP is a multi-year campus-wide initiative focused on increasing student learning and success. Our QEP will be focused on the purposeful integration of information literacy into the curriculum. As part of this year’s event, you will also learn more about the QEP process, how the plan will develop over the next months and years, and importantly, about the faculty role in the plan. Faculty development is a significant component of the QEP, as faculty hold the primary responsibility for helping students to develop information literacy.
Sharon Mader is the winner of the 2018 Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and previously served as the ACRL’s Visiting Program Officer on Information Literacy. In this role, she dedicated her time to promoting and advocating for the importance of information literacy. She was also a founding member of the ACRL’s Information Literacy Immersion Program.
