menu

Dear colleagues,

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Peter Hoffmann as our new vice provost of graduate education, research and outreach.

Peter comes to us after serving as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, since August 2022. Prior to his time in Daytona Beach, he concluded a long and distinguished career at Wayne State University in Detroit that began in 2001 with various professorships and administrative positions. Among his highlights at Wayne State, Peter served as the senior associate dean, the associate dean of research and the associate dean for academic programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences where he also chaired the Department of Physics and Astronomy and was the founding director of that college’s biomedical physics program.

I am so very excited for this new chapter for Graduate Education, Research, and Outreach at NKU and for what Peter will bring to that important group in Academic Affairs. Please help me in welcoming Peter to his new position starting this coming Monday, August 25! He will necessarily start his position remotely as he plans his move here from Florida.  I am very grateful for his willingness to start right away even before his move to the area.

I cannot begin to describe the depth of work that Julie Olberding and Anita Southwick adeptly and professionally completed in their leadership for this search. I give my deepest gratitude to both of them and to the entire search committee for their dedicated work and thoughtful and detailed analysis for an external search that brought us a very large pool of talented external and internal candidates. I also want to thank all our talented internal applicants who put themselves forward to be considered for this position. Lastly, thanks to all across campus who engaged in this important process, another search that was conducted over the summer.

Exciting times!

Sincerely,

Diana McGill, Ph.D.

Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs
