NKU Announces Plans for Small Business Development Center

Sept. 30, 2021 - Northern Kentucky University has announced future changes for its Small Business Development Center (SBDC) operations. Effective Oct. 1, the university will transition its SBDC operations to the Kentucky Small Business Development (KSBDC) network, hosted by the University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. By next July, NKU plans to open its own small business support center with a focus on family run enterprises, underrepresented small businesses and rural small business throughout the tri-state.

“NKU has been providing support for regional small businesses for over three decades, and we will continue to strengthen and expand our small business resources, albeit in a slightly different manner,” said NKU President Ashish Vaidya. “This change will allow for continued small business development services in our region and is intended to further the university’s commitment to providing new and innovative outreach approaches in supporting economic growth throughout the tri-state.”

The new family enterprise and small business support center will be housed within the newly renamed Haile College of Business.

“Our college is experiencing a great momentum,” said Haile College of Business Dean Hassan HassabElnaby. “Advancing student success and educating them to be lifelong business leaders in a global and interconnected society has always been at the core of what we do. The addition of this new center will further engage our students with limitless opportunities with the local entrepreneur community.”

NKU’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) will engage in additional programming this year to support the small business community before the launch of the new center this upcoming July. More information about the SBDC can be found on its website.
