Dr. Marcos L. Misis is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice. Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Dr. Misis came to the United States in 1997 to further his education. He received his Ph.D. in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. His Master’s and undergraduate degrees were obtained from the University of Houston-Downtown in criminal justice. His teaching and research interests include the areas of policing, homeland security, terrorism, human and drug smuggling/trafficking, rural law enforcement, police stress, and drug addiction.

Dr. Misis considers it a great privilege to have the opportunity to teach. He believes that one of the most important responsibilities of an educator is to be able to mentor students. He recalls having great mentors in his academic pathway that showed him the importance of positive interactions with students to help them achieve their educational and personal goals.

Dr. Misis is currently working in different research projects on fear of terrorism, border security, the role of law enforcement in homeland security, and the militarization of police in the United States.
