Rita Larkin

Rita Larkin began her private teaching career in 1996, joined the faculty of the Northern Kentucky University’s Music Preparatory Division in the fall of 2009 and joined the Theatre and Dance Program faculty in 2016. In addition to a full schedule of private students, prep students and university students, Ms. Larkin is also a regular soloist with Holy Cross Church in Latonia and a member of the Kentucky Symphony Chorale.

Several vocal students of Ms. Larkin have attended the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts over the past 20 years, and several have continued their musical studies at the college level at the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, NKU and Centre College, in both voice and musical theatre/theatre. Ms. Larkin’s NKU Theater students have competed successfully at NATS state and regional competitions with finalists in several recent competitions. Her private studio includes students ranging in age from 10 to “over 60” and welcomes the adults who wish to pursue music as a means of personal enrichment and mental stimulation.

Studio activities include several recitals and multiple performance and competition opportunities throughout the year.

“Music is a life skill. If we learn it young, it is with us forever. I believe that a healthy vocal technique will allow students to ultimately choose their own style and will allow them the flexibility to continue in whatever genre they choose.”
