Over 80% of our students participate in undergraduate research experiences with our faculty, funded through the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Other students participate in internships with local laboratories like Gravity Diagnostics and the Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory. As a chemistry major at NKU, you will learn through in-depth experiences and be prepared for your desired career.
Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in chemistry can choose between four tracks based on their interests.
At NKU, learning doesn't stop when you leave the classroom.
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is committed to undergraduate research as a strong tool to prepare students for their postgraduate careers. Participation in research can provide a significant advantage for students when they seek employment or apply to graduate or professional schools.

Students will receive in-depth hands-on experience with our extensive instrumentation during independent research with faculty and during experiments conducted within laboratory courses.
With organizations and clubs like our Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS) and the Health Professions Club (HPC), you’ll find a supportive learning community to support you both inside and outside the classroom and as you prepare for your future after graduation.

"I had such a great relationship with all the professors and fellow students in the Chemistry program. The small classroom style is one of the things that attracted me to NKU in the first place and I still think it’s one of the school’s greatest strengths."
