Subject: GIS Position at KYTC...
Hello Everyone,
We are adding a new position to meet the growing demand for GIS services. There is a Geoprocessing Specialist III opening in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Information Technology GIS Branch (Auto Req. ID: 27753BR). Even if you have applied for the other Geoprocessor Specialist III openings, you must apply separately for this position to be considered for it. State government’s hiring rules are very specific and are not flexible on this point.
The position requires a minimum of three years of real GIS experience. This is calculated at three years working at least 37.5 to 40 hours a week (5,850 total hours). If you worked part time (20 hours) per week, you would have to work a total of six years to accumulate the appropriate amount of experience time to qualify. Experience is calculated from job dates and duty descriptions provided in the state application.
The successful candidate will work as part
of a collaborative team to provide administration and customer service for
ESRI-based KYTC GIS systems. The OIT-GIS Support Services Branch helps 500
desktop customers, builds, deploys and supports mobile GIS and web GIS

work-centric GIS solutions to help the Transportation Cabinet deliver a safe,
efficient and environmentally sensitive transportation system. It is never
dull, always challenging and a lot of fun.
This position will:

Support multiple complex
GIS projects using ESRI mobile, desktop and web technologies using OIT project
management methods and tools;
1.
This includes
documenting and merging individual projects into the larger enterprise GIS;

Provide excellent
customer service as part of a GIS Support Team that manages GIS information and
mapping grade GPS;
·
Provide focused GIS
training on the applications we develop;
·
Develop customized
spatial tools to improve customer efficiency.
· Knowledge of ESRI’s Model Builder is essential. Python and or C# are beneficial.
The successful candidate must:
·
enjoy working closely
with peers and customers in a very collaborative team environment;
·
be an “out-of-the-box”
problem solver.
·
learn quickly and see
how problems and processes fit within larger systems;
· be able to understand customers’ needs and develop and implement solutions that provide short and long term benefits to our customers and the agency.
If you want to be part of a team that is recognized nationally and has fun while working hard and making a difference for its customers and agency, then please follow the link below and fill out an application.
https://sjobs.brassring.com/1033/asp/tg/cim_jobdetail.asp?partnerid=20101&siteid=5031&jobid=176581
Within the State Government hiring process, If you want to be successful, please note the following:
· A person can only be considered for the position if they fill out a state application and apply for that specific position.
· Information on the state application is the ultimate evaluation tool.
o While you may attach a cover letter and resume, you should include all relevant information in your state application even if it is repeated from your resume and cover letter.
· It is critical that you fill out as many details as possible about all relevant work experience on the state application.
o Part of the evaluation of candidates is not just, “so they meet the minimum,” but “which candidate has the most relevant experience.”
o Include all customer service experience you have as well as all GIS, IT, programming and technical analysis roles you’ve performed.
o If you’ve worked in the profession for 20 years, but only list your last five years of experience, you will only be counted as having five years, even though you may state you have 20. Again, selection rules within state government are very specific.
· In the Employment History Section under each of your Employment Experiences, describe clearly the relevant “Duties” of the position.
o Relevant details help you demonstrate your fit to the above position description.
· Job titles do not necessarily convey skills/experience.
o The “Duties” description can make a difference between being shortlisted and not.
If you have questions, feel free to ask. If you know of someone who you think would be interested and they have the experience/skills, feel free to forward this to them. We want the best possible candidate to help us push GIS forward.
