Borders
Border(rule) - can be added to any edge of a paragraph
Click Tables and Borders button on Standard Toolbar
causes Tables and Borders toolbar to display on screen
Remove Border - click Outside Border button arrow, click No Border

Clip Art Files
Floating picture - a picture inserted in a layer over the text
format used by Word to import clip art files
Inline picture - picture positioned directly in the text at the location of the insertion point
Note: change a floating picture to an inline picture using the Format Picture dialog box
Inserting a Section Break
New Section - created to change margins, paper size, orientation, page number position, contents or position of headers, footers, or footnotes.
Each section may be formatted different from the others
Section break - double dotted line separated by the words Section Break
specify if new section should begin a page
Deleting Section Breaks
Note: All section formatting is stored in the section break
Delete a section break (all associated formatting) - click right button click Cut on the shortcut menu
Undo button can be used to restore section break
Setting and Using Tabs
Custom tab stops - Word clears all default tab stops to the left of the custom tab stop
Align tab stop - left, centered, right, decimal
Tab settings - stored in paragraph mark at end of each paragraph
Enter key at end of each paragraph carry the tab stops forward to the next paragraph
Removing
and Moving Tabs

2 Kinds of Word Tables
Simple (Same number of rows and columns) - use the Insert Table Button to create
Complex ( varying number of columns per row) - use the Draw Table feature
Advantages: Word users create tables with Insert Table button or Draw Table feature rather than using tabs, to make it easier to rearrange rows and columns, change column widths, sort rows and columns, and sum contents of rows and columns.
Table Terms Concepts
Tables have a .5-point border
cell - intersection of row and column
end-of-row mark - used to add columns to the right of a table
end-of-cell mark - used to select a cell
left-aligned default
Working with Tables
Depending on task performed, the function of Table button changes as do the Table or shortcut menus.
Add row to end of table - position cursor to the bottom right corner cell, then press the TAB key
Add Rows in Table Middle
Select the row below the insert
Insert Rows Button - on Tables and Borders Toolbar
Insert Rows command on Table or shortcut menu
Delete row - select it, click Delete Rows on Table or shortcut menu
Add Columns in Table Middle
Select the column to the right of insert
Insert Columns Button - on Tables and Borders Toolbar
Insert Columns command on Table or shortcut menu
Delete Column - select it, click Delete Columns on Table or shortcut menu
