Day 33, Mat420: Real Analysis

Announcements:
- Your 3.1 assignment is returned.
  - Mandy's #15
- We do have an exam Friday. The exam will cover chapters 2 and 3 (four sections). You will have a 10-15 minute problem on each section. You will also have a take-home component, with one problem from each section. It will be due Friday, 11/18.
  For the in-class part, you should be familiar with as many theorems as possible (but, in contrast to last time, I will not ask you to prove any theorems from the text). Be able to wield the theorems.
Last time we
- revisited #15, section 2.3 (hoping that Perhaps a picture would clarify).
- answered questions about covers. I want to revisit that a little today....
- took a careful look at #7, section 4.1.
Today:
- #2(e) - more easily, given #7
- #5
- We'll visit the proof of Theorem 4-7 (leading to the extreme value theorem)
- Bizarre examples! E.g. #3 (related to Example 4-7)
