First, we must find the value of p, the probability of success. In this exercise a success is considered to be an offspring with genotype Aa. The probability of an Aa offspring from AA x Aa mating is 1/2. To see this, we know that the male will contribute an "a" allele with probability 1/2. Using the binomial distribution gives,
