Announcements:
- Today we welcome our clean-up speaker, Steve Long, Marketing Analyst and statistician, consultant to P&G (and the "big corporate world"), self-employed data analyst, now re-purposed.... and always my brother!:)
  Actually Steve is batting 8th....
- Some of you went to the KYMAA: how was it? Jordan has completed his four event evaluations! He's the first. The rest of you are frighteningly far behind...:)
- Upcoming events:
  - 4/5-4/6, Friday, Saturday: Pop-Up Conference: origami on Friday afternoon, and domino math on Saturday morning. We'll need student help for this, as well as student participation.
    We've thrown open the floodgates to others at that point, but you still have the opportunity to get in now (at least for dinner and Saturday -- Friday is booked).
  - 4/9-4/10: The Student Celebration of Research and Creativity is also coming up April -- the 9th and 10th. There are opportunities to visit talks, or the big poster session.
    You'll see Alli and Parker again, perhaps.
  - 4/13: Pi-Miler: The 8th Annual P-Miler is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 beginning at 10am. To sign-up as a participant, please use this link. If you are interested in serving a volunteer, please contact Prof. Bethany Noblet. Registrations received by Friday, April 5 are guaranteed a t-shirt!
  - On-campus or off-campus talks (coming soon! One or two in April)
    - Tentative: Friday, April 19th, 3:05: "Highlights from the KYMAA"
- Your short essays about Madison Paoli and Laura Farro's visit are due today.
- Next week: we'll be reflecting on all of our experiences, and talking about our own answers to the questions of the course:
  - In what ways have I loved mathematics in the past?
  - What do I want to do (and what have I done) with mathematics?
  - Why is it important in my life, and to human society?
  We will begin preparing for our own (poster) presentations in answer to these questions.
Finally! The main event:
Today we'll be enjoying Steve's tales of his journey through the corporate world, as a statistician and marketing analyst, as well as "life after work".
But Steve's work continues, as he prefers "re-purposed" to "retired". Perhaps he'll say more about that....

Steve has a Masters (M.S.) in Applied Statistics from Bowling Green State University (1983), and has spent decades since applying statistics:
- Founder and Consultant, Long Research Associates (1998-Present)
- Vice President -- Customer Development, Frequency Marketing, Inc. (1997-1998)
- Vice President/Regional Testing Manager, Information Resources, Inc. (1993-1997)
- Manager -- Quantitative Methods & Senior Statistician, NFO Research, Inc. (1985-1993)
- Instructor -- Applied Statistics and Operations Research, BGSU, 1983-1985
Steve will be sharing some of the work he's done over the course of his career, and how mathematics has played a role in his life (hopefully in a positive way!). Steve will certainly appreciate questions, and he encourages you to interject with one at any time.
