Dorough, Jazzman With a Hit Kid-Music Series, Dies at 94:
Bob Dorough, a singer, pianist and composer who was well known for his jazz but even better known as "Schoolhouse Rock!," an infectious series of song-filled cartoons that conveyed math and grammar principles to young viewers, died on Monday at his home in Mount Bethel, Pa. He was 94.

On Monday we'll have "the show": the presentation of your mathematical
autobiographies. We will hold an open poster session, during which
some faculty will visit to learn your stories. You'll also have a
chance to visit your peers, because I'll be asking you to evaluate the
projects, too.
- Today I'll set you up for some speed dates, to help us prepare for
Monday. There are two facets that you should share:
- some interesting mathematics, and
- your math story.
- First I'd like you to stake out your territory for Monday, so
that we can set up and just go on Monday. So have a look around, and
see what would work for you. You may have different needs (i.e. some
have talked about using computers, so you might need to be near
outlets, perhaps).
We can have some people on the interior of the room, if you prefer. I kind of like that, as it's more "milling about" friendly.

So take your preferred positions, and then I'll match you up.
- So I figure that we should be able to get in four dates again. I'm
giving you each a number (please put your name on your number -- I'll
be picking them up at the end). You "odds" have to pay special
attention now: the evens are passive observers!
- First round: odd $i \longrightarrow i+1$
That is, odds visits with "next even" -- 1 & 2, 3 & 4, etc. -- with the obvious wrapping at the end (so we would say "mod the number of people in the room").
- Second round: odd $i \longrightarrow i+3$
- Third round: odd $i \longrightarrow i+5$
- Fourth round: odd $i \longrightarrow i+7$
You will each have four minutes to describe your mathematical autobiography to your partner. Then you should take two minutes to give feedback to each other.
Then we'll "re-pair"....
