Undergraduate Students

  • Andrea Veronica Zapata (2003-04) -- Modern and fossil diatoms along an elevational transect from the Andean tree-line to the Amazonian lowlands. Ohio River Run 2003, also worked on Algae from tributaries of the Ohio River.
     
  • Caroline Lind (2004) --The impact of tributaries and flow rates on Ohio River algal communities: River Run 2002 and River Run 2003. Also worked on relationships between antibiotic resistance and abundance of Cyanobacteria on Ohio River Run Samples.
     
  • Alberto Carbajo, Fernando Abaquero, Michael Gunder (2002) --Diversity and Possible Controls of Algal Communities in the Ohio River, its Tributaries, and their Mixing Zones: River Run 2002.
     
  •  Emina Atikovic (2001-2003) -- Evaluation of a new DNA amplification technique to screen cyanobacteria isolated from drinking water sources for Microcystin toxins.  Also worked on misc. microbiology projects.

  • Diane K. McCubbin (2002-2004) --(Ph.D. student at UC).  Impact of Tributaries on the Ohio River Algal Community. - Learned diatoms and is also co-author of the book describing Diatoms of the upper Ohio River and selected tributaries with Joshua T. Cooper (current) and Dr. Miriam Steinitz-Kannan.
