Paleolimnology Studies  (Climate Reconstructions)

  • look for patterns in diatom communities of lake cores
  • compare different proxy data (Diatoms, Pollen, Geochemistry, etc.)
  • Compare data from different cores

Current Paleoclimatology Projects

  • Vegetation and Paleoecology of an Amazon-Andean Elevation Transect - NSF Funded
in collaboration with Mark Bush (Florida Institute of Technology)

  • Reconstruction of El Niño events using diatoms from lake cores collected from the Galápagos Islands. Collaborative research with Julian Sachs (University of Washington) Mark Bush (Florida Institute of Technology), Paul Colinvaux (Marine Biological Lab, Woods Hole) and Jonathan Overpeck (University of Arizona) and the Charles Darwin Research Station, Santa Cruz, Galápagos Islands.

Other Paleolimnological Projects

  • History of Deglaciation of the Andes. Impact of Global Warming and the retreat of Glaciers.
  • Ecuador (Modern Analog) Diatom Database - data on diatom presence and abundance and photographs from > 86 lakes and  Data on physical and chemical parameters of each site.
