My grandfather passed away when I was four. As an attempt to
learn more about who he was and where my values come from, I
have photographed the Albritton family homeplace throughout the
years. The pictures have sometimes satisfied me on an aesthetic level
but have seldom answered questions I was seeking. I have recently
begun a video project with interviews and footage of the house.
This project is beginning to answer some of my questions.
My grandfather had a very practical approach to life and could
always find a way to solve life's daily problems: a broken chair could
be quickly fixed with an old broom handle; a coathanger could hold up
a muffler whose bracket had come loose. I find that I share this
same practical ingenuity. I also share with my grandfather and father
a love of maintining and repairing old cars.
