NKU Ranked as Military Friendly® School

Feb. 18, 2019— Northern Kentucky University is once again ranked as a Military Friendly® School, highlighted for creating a supporting environment for veterans. This is the ninth straight year NKU has received this designation from Viqtory, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning to civilian life.

The Military Friendly® Schools list is a resource for post-military success. It provides transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities for veterans.

“NKU has a Veterans Resource Station which is a combination of services, programs, support, social space, and the Veterans office which houses the veterans’ staff. These institutions have exceptional military/veteran programs and this award showcases their dedication” stated Military Friendly in its review.

NKU serves more than 400 veterans, active family members, National Guardsmen, Reservists and ROTC students. The Veterans Resource Station, established in 2013, helps with applications, financial aid, VA education benefits, advising, registration and career support.

“Receiving this designation shows the programs and services we offer our veterans are meaningful, and it’s something we can all be proud of,” said Ralph Carmichael, Veterans Resource Station coordinator. “Our goal is to streamline the enrollment process for veterans. We created a one-stop shop located in the Registrar's suite that has a VA certifying official and support after they start classes.”

NKU is designated as a PAVE mentoring university, which provides incoming students with a student veteran mentor. The university is also highlighted as a Best for Vets school by Military Times.

The 2019 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. Methodology, criteria, and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board consisting of educators from schools across the country.
