HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University has been awarded the designation of Military Friendly School by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. As a 2017 Military Friendly School, NKU is ranked in the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are working to embrace military service members, veterans, and dependents as students and ensure their success on campus.
This is the seventh consecutive year NKU has received this designation. The Military Friendly® Schools designation and list by Victory Media is a premier, trusted resource for post-military success. Military Friendly® provides service members transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.
NKU President Geoffrey Mearns said the university is committed to assisting veterans and family members in reaching their educational goals. “Veterans and their families are an important part of our campus,” President Mearns said. “We will continue to do all that we can to both assist with their transition to college life and to ensure they have the support and resources they need to succeed here and graduate.”
NKU serves more than 500 veterans, active family members, National Guardsmen, Reservists, and ROTC students. The Veterans Resource Station, established in 2013, provides seamless assistance with applications, financial aid, VA education benefits, advising, registration, career support and more.
“We are committed to our student veterans and family members, ensuring they receive the best service possible,” said Peg Adams, director of the Veterans Resource Station. “The VRS is a unique space for our students to connect with one another, establish meaningful relationships, and receive valuable services and programs. We are grateful to the university, staff, and faculty who support NKU’s student veterans so that we are able to remain a military-friendly school.”
The 2017 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. Methodology, criteria, and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.
NKU is also ranked among the nation’s top colleges for veterans in 2017 by The Military Times.
