October 17, 2017- Northern Kentucky University’s College of Education and Human Services is proud to host the Seventh Annual Young Women LEAD (YWL) Conference, presented by Toyota, on October 19 and October 20, 2017.
The YWL conference is for Greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky high school girls and focuses on Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD). The all-day conference features interactive breakout sessions, keynote speakers and lunch. The conference is free to all participants, and more than 600 students are expected to attend.
“The purpose of the conference is to empower high school girls to embrace their strengths and to reach their full potential,” said Kimberly Code, NKU’s Gifted and Talented Education professor and YWL Project Manager. “At this year’s conference, we are excited to have a nationally recognized speakers who will share their insights on real life issues and how they overcame them to achieve success. The conference will also provide an opportunity for teens to connect to and learn from female business leaders.”
Julie Marie Carrier will give the keynote address. Featured on NBC’s Today Show, Carrier is a top national speaker, award-winning author and Emmy-Nominee. She also brings her message to millions of homes on national television as a Success Coach for MTV’s positive goal-setting show, “MADE.” Carrier’s messages are also featured in the New York Times best seller, “The Success Principles, Chicken Soup for the Extraordinary Teen Soul” and in her national award-winning book, “Be-YOU-tiful!,” considered a best book for girls and young women on success and self-confidence.

The YWL conference is organized by the local participants of SOAR, a leadership development program designed to assist businesses in developing their women for future leadership positions. Through this project, SOAR members practice their newly acquired leadership skills while at the same time “lifting as they lead.”
