President Mearns to deliver Fall Convocation on Friday, Aug. 19

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University President Geoffrey S. Mearns will deliver his annual Fall Convocation address on Friday, Aug. 19.

He will welcome the NKU community back to campus for the academic year and celebrate the University’s successes over the past year. President Mearns will also discuss the challenges – and opportunities – facing higher education, and provide an update on the progress toward the goals set forth in NKU’s 2013-18 strategic plan, “Fuel The Flame.”

The president will also introduce new colleagues and confer the Frank Sinton Milburn Outstanding Professor award upon Dr. Missy Jones, professor of Special Education in NKU’s College of Education and Human Services. 

Her research focuses upon disability studies, and she is coordinator of NKU’s Supported Higher Education Project, which works to expand access to higher education for students with intellectual disabilities.

The Convocation address will also feature a performance by students from NKU’s School of the Arts. The event begins at 9 a.m. in the James C. and Rachel M. Votruba Student Union Ballroom.
