The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has informed us that Bray Construction will begin work on the long-awaited, $10.6 million North Connector Road project next week. A 1.7-mile, three-lane road will be constructed on the west side of campus parallel to Kenton Drive. This state-led project is designed to improve safety and alleviate traffic congestion on and near our campus by connecting Johns Hill Road and Three Mile Road.
The project will affect portions of several parking lots on the west side of campus along Kenton Drive. The rear portions of Lots A, G, K and L will be affected, as well as all of Lot Y. The affected parts of these lots are expected to close beginning next week. For your convenience, a campus map is available at http://map.nku.edu. A map noting the affected areas is also available at map.jpg.
Alternative parking is suggested in the Welcome Center Garage, as well as in Lots O and P. Electronic signs will be posted in the area to aid drivers.
We realize the closures resulting from this state road project will likely cause increased traffic and parking times in the coming weeks, and we encourage students, faculty, and staff who normally park in the affected lots to arrive earlier than normal for the first few days to allow ample time to find alternative parking.
Students, faculty, and staff are also reminded that they can ride TANK transit services—including the popular 35X East-West Express route—free with their All Card through the U-Pass program.
More information about parking alternatives is available at http://parking.nku.edu/services.html. If you have questions or concerns about the impact this state road project will have upon our campus, please contact Parking Services at (859) 572-5505 or email@example.com.
