HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – More than 750 high school students from across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky will gather at Northern Kentucky University on Tuesday for Young Women LEAD, a daylong conference which empowers teenage girls to embrace their strengths and reach their full potential.
Young Women LEAD is presented by SOAR, a professional leadership development program for young women. The event is sponsored by Toyota and NKU’s College of Education and Human Services.
“We are pleased to welcome these remarkable young women to our campus and help encourage them to achieve their dreams and become the next generation of leaders,” said Dr. Cindy Reed, dean of the College of Education and Human Services.
The conference features breakout sessions on topics such as self-defense, self-worth, money management, and attending college. The conference also provides an opportunity for teens to connect with and learn from local female business leaders.
The keynote speaker is Julie Marie Carrier, the award-winning author, speaker and television host. Carrier left a career at the Pentagon to serve as a positive voice for young women on leadership, character and confidence. She is the author of BeYOUtiful!, a bestselling book for girls and young women about success and self-confidence.
Young Women LEAD will be held 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the James C. and Rachel M. Votruba Student Union and in the University Center on NKU’s Highland Heights campus.
