HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law will become the only law school in Greater Cincinnati and Kentucky to offer a Master of Legal Studies (M.L.S.) degree, Dean Jeffrey Standen announced today.

The M.L.S. degree is designed for students who seek a thorough understanding of the American legal system and a range of law-related topics. It is ideal for working professionals whose careers require some legal knowledge, such as human resources or compliance work. The program will begin this fall.

“Given the greater number and variety of legal issues and government regulations that impact today’s workplace, our M.L.S. program will provide a valuable degree for people who are either currently employed or who are searching for employment in positions that require knowledge of particular aspects of the law,” Standen said.

The college will host an information reception Wednesday, July 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Club, 50 E. Rivercenter Blvd., Covington, Ky.

The program is designed for working or aspiring professionals in a wide range of industries, including human resources, health care administration, finance, insurance, law enforcement, and education and athletics administration. Applicants who wish to practice law should pursue the law school’s Juris Doctor degree.

Graduates of the program will have a better understanding of how the law applies to their fields and areas, including contract issues, compliance, regulatory issues, administrative law, privacy issues, and other areas of the law.

Students may complete the program as part-time evening students or as full-time or part-time day students.  Applications are now being accepted for the 2015-16 academic year.
