HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Students in the Northern Kentucky University Haile/US Bank College of Business MBA program have worked diligently over the last year on five business projects for the Kroger Company and presented their solutions to Kroger executives on campus in July.
The Kroger Project began as an idea formulated by MBA Program Director Ned Jackson and Ryan Verbecken, an NKU MBA alumnus and Kroger executive. Projects were chosen from a list of potential endeavors provided by Kroger and were initiated with the MBA cohort last fall.
The NKU MBA Program hosted Kroger executives and students and faculty at a dinner featuring the group presentations. “To say that the presentations were excellent is an understatement; they were superb and exceeded all expectations,” Jackson said.
Kroger executives were equally effusive in their praise. “I hear presentations from consultants, architectural firms, other MBA program students, all the time,” one vice president said. “I haven’t heard presentations this good in years.”
Jackson recognized all who helped make the project a success. “Many kudos to our great group of MBA students for their hard work on these projects,” he said. “And many kudos to Ryan and to our MBA faculty for structuring these projects in a way that created the most beneficial and rewarding learning outcomes for our students.”
Cathy Neal, Esq., is one of those MBA professors who helped structure the Kroger projects. “The students worked extremely hard this year on these projects and I was beyond impressed with their final presentations,” she said.
Jackson, along with members of the MBA faculty, said the Kroger Project could not have worked without the time, generosity, openness, candor and partnership shown by the company’s executives while working with NKU MBA students. “Kroger executives were unselfish with their time and expertise, meeting with our student groups at all hours to offer information, support and guidance throughout these projects,” Jackson said. “They’re a terrific partner.”
Students in the cohort were challenged to hone their leadership and communication skills while applying the knowledge they gained in the classroom to real business issues. They have put in three semesters worth of work of which culminated in final presentations Thursday evening.
