HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The College Database – the most current and comprehensive source for U.S. college and university data – has ranked Northern Kentucky University among the top colleges for future service members in Kentucky.
The website examined four-year public institutions in Kentucky that are both affordable (the site considered 2011-12 annual tuition rates under $20,000) and offer at least two ROTC programs. With an annual tuition rate of $7,488 and ROTC programs for the Army and the Air Force, NKU ranks second on the list behind only Kentucky State University.
“We take our commitment to serving veterans as well as our future service men and women very seriously,” said NKU President Geoffrey Mearns. “For the past several years, NKU has been ranked among the most military-friendly institutions in the nation, and we are proud to offer all of our students an excellent, affordable education that prepares them for success in all of their future endeavors.”
Wes Ricketts, vice president and general manager of The College Database, said that aspect can sometimes be overlooked. “Everyone talks about service members using their GI Bill to go back to school, but rarely do people discuss current students using college to join the service,” he said. “Colleges with ROTC programs give students a great opportunity not only to explore military service, but to gain valuable leadership skills coveted by employers.”
