HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University assistant professor of organizational leadership Dr. Whitney McIntyre Miller was recently presented the Donald W. Littrell Outstanding New Professional Award by the Community Development Society (CDS) at its annual conference in Charleston, S.C.
The Littrell Award goes to a society member in recognition of a superior contribution to the field of community development and to the society.
Prior to her tenure at NKU, Dr. Miller focused on issues of refugee return and resettlement and youth nonviolence with NGOs in Bosnia, Pittsburgh and San Diego. She has participated on a number of CDS committees, helping with outreach and providing local support for its annual conference. She also contributed to the joint CDS-International Association for Community Development newsletter and offers suggestions regarding ways to incorporate international presenters and topics into the CDS.
“I was so surprised and honored to receive this award,” Dr. Miller said. “I felt immediately at home when I joined CDS in 2009, and to be given such a prestigious award from the society means such a great deal to me.”
Dr. Miller earned her Ph.D. from the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Services. Her dissertation examined post-conflict community building in Sierra Leone.
