Annual Student Systems Workshop Held at NKU

– The Northern Kentucky University Office of Information Technology hosted the annual SAP Student LifeCycle Management workshop last week. More than 85 participants assembled at the NKU METS Center to exchange ideas on providing high-quality service to students through student systems. Attendees represented universities presently using the SAP suite of student systems as well as schools considering a move to SAP.

The workshop featured three tracks which integrated student accounting, student administration and student financial aid. Attendees comprised a cross section of administrative offices from each participating university – admissions, registrar, financial aid, bursar and information technology. The sessions provided an opportunity to connect and collaborate with colleagues, showcase functionality and share best practices.

“This year’s workshop provided an excellent opportunity for our front-line offices supporting our students to network and share ideas,” said event organizer Kathy Bennett, NKU information technology director. “In fact, we are planning to work together to ensure we keep the conversation going throughout the year.”

Representatives from SAP, NKU financial aid provider Sigma Systems and Universal Systems Technologies sponsored the workshop. They led presentations and conducted functionality demonstrations.

“The workshop occurred at the perfect time for myself and my staff to learn more about the functionality available from our student systems, as we are contemplating initiatives for 2013,” said Paul Orscheln, NKU associate vice president for enrollment management. “The demos and the discussion that ensued provided an excellent opportunity for enrollment management.”

The SAP SCLM workshop is an annual event that is rotated between universities that employ the SAP suite, and 2012 marked the second occasion that NKU has staged the event. The University of Kentucky conducted the prior two workshops.
