About This Micro-Credential

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe how to and show evidence of engaging elementary students in purposeful sharing of mathematical ideas, reasoning, and approaches, using varied representations.
  • Use research related to elementary students’ thinking and associated strategies for learning mathematics to plan lessons and assessments.
  • Interpret student thinking to assess mathematical understanding, reasoning, and methods.
  • Show evidence of advanced understanding of elementary mathematics content and effective teaching practices as defined by that National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Required Courses

This micro-credential requires a total of three courses.

Choose two of the following:

  • MTE 650 - Advanced Methods for Teaching Number P – 2
  • MTE 651 - Advanced Methods for Teaching Number 3 – 5
  • MTE 652 - Intervention Strategies for Elementary Mathematics Educators
  • MTE 653 - Geometry and Measurement Methods and Content for P-5 Teachers
  • MTE 654 - Advanced Number, Algebra and Data P – 5

And choose one of the following:

  • MTE 650 - Advanced Methods for Teaching Number P – 2
  • MTE 651 - Advanced Methods for Teaching Number 3 – 5
  • MTE 652 - Intervention Strategies for Elementary Mathematics Educators
