How to get involved

Donations?

Donations are accepted to the care closet if they are new or gently used, free of any stains or holes, and free of any smells. We try to offer mostly career wear clothing, but casual wear is accepted occasionally, if it is in great condition. Please email carecloset@nku.edu to ask whether donations are currently being accepted and to coordinate a drop-off time.

Are you a faculty or staff member with career wear donations? Email noec2@nku.edu to coordinate drop-off times.

Need Volunteer Hours?

The Care Closet is always happy to welcome any student or staff volunteers. We have a variety of tasks that generally involve sorting, moving, hanging, or folding clothing items. Volunteers must be available during regular hours of operation. Please contact carecloset@nku.edu to inquire about upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should I take?

Take as much as you need, seriously!  If you need a guide, we like to give people 1-2 pairs of shoes, a jacket or coat and roughly 10-20 items of clothing. Enough to fill 1-2 shopping bags.

Can I take items for other people?

Yes! We just ask that you let us know so we can better understand who we are helping in the community.

How often can I shop?

We recommend twice a year, once for warm weather and once for cold. If you need something specific in the mean time, please come by!

Do you have kids’ clothes?

We do! We have all kinds of clothes for babies and children of all ages at our home base in Newport. Just complete our online form and we will pull a bag together and arrange to get it to you.

Can I donate clothing I no longer need?

Usually- please ask us before bringing items to the Closet. If we are accepting donations, clothes must be clean, free of holes and stains, and appropriate for our needs - career wear and casual, relatively in style. Thank you!
