NKU String Project Camp

NKU String Project Camp is for young string players (violin, viola, cello, bass) with 1–5 years experience. At least 1-year experience required (1 academic year of experience is okay). Students will be placed in ensembles according to experience and ability. The camp will include large string orchestra class, small group class, and musicianship class. All area string players are welcome to attend; you need not be part of the NKU String Project academic year program.

Ages: 8–14 (entering grades 4–9) campers must be 9 years old by June 1, 2018 to participate

NKU String Project Camp: Chamber Strings is a week-long intensive for advanced-level string players. Students must have a good understanding of shifting, vibrato, tuning, and be well versed in sight-reading. During this camp, students will participate in chamber music (small groups) as well as string orchestra. Focus will be given to topics such as rehearsing in a small chamber group, listening across the orchestra, learning 3 octave scales, improving sight reading, and being audition ready! The camp will culminate in a performance on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11am in Greaves Hall as part of the NKU String Project Camp.

Ages: 12–17
At least 3+ years’ playing experience required (if student is currently in the String Project, they must be current Sinfonietta students or have auditioned and were accepted to Sinfonietta for 2018–19). Students must have a good understanding of shifting, vibrato, tuning, and be well versed in sight-reading.

Mainstage Musical Theatre and Voice Camp is a fun-filled, intensive week that focuses on the elements of musical theatre. Students perform in large and small ensembles, learn choreography, staging, acting, and singing. The week culminates in a high-energy show performed on the Mainstage!

NKU Summer Adult String Orchestra is the place to be this summer for adult string players (18–99!) who enjoy making music in a relaxed, fun, and social environment! Musicians should have a fair understanding of their instrument, as rehearsals will focus on learning the repertoire and developing good ensemble techniques. NKU SASO meets Mondays from 6–7:30pm between May 14, 2018 through July 30, 2018 and will culminate in a final concert on July 30, 2018! (no class meeting on May 28 or July 23)

NKU Clarinet Choir is a summer program under the direction of Professor Jeff Carwile. Enjoy learning and performing clarinet choir repertoire of mixed genres with other clarinetists of our region!

Ages and prerequisites:

6–6:50pm Junior Choir
(ages 11–13, grades 6–8, must have 1 year playing experience)

7–8:20pm Senior Choir
(ages 14–17, grades 9–12, must have 2 years playing experience)

8:30–9pm Adult Choir
(comprised of select members from the Senior Choir)
