Strings Summer Camp

Strings Summer Camp is for young string players (violin, viola, cello, bass) with 1–3 years experience. At least 1-year experience required (1 academic year of experience is okay). Students will be placed in groups according to experience and ability. Daily activities include large string orchestra class, small group class, and music theory/musicianship games, and more! 

Ages: 9–13 (entering grades 4–8) campers must be 9 years old by June 1, 2019 to participate

Chamber Strings Summer Workshop is a week-long intensive for advanced-level string players. Students must have a good understanding of shifting, vibrato, tuning, and be well versed in sight-reading. During this camp, students will participate in chamber music (small groups) as well as string orchestra. Focus will be given to topics such as rehearsing in a small chamber group, listening across the orchestra, learning 3 octave scales, improving sight reading, and being audition ready! The camp will culminate in a shared performance with the Strings Summer Camp on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. in Greaves Hall.

Ages: 14–17
At least 3+ years’ playing experience required (or by audition, if younger). Students must have a good understanding of shifting, vibrato, tuning, and be well versed in sight-reading.

Mainstage Dance Techniques Camp is a fun-filled, intensive week that focuses on the elements of dance! Students will learn a combination of dance genres: ballet concepts to build strength, technique and body control; Jazz movement to improve coordination, full-range of motion and build an understanding of different styles of Jazz dance; and modern dance using creative expression and improvisation to improve body awareness and expressivity. This class will provide students with poise, confidence, strength, flexibility, and a well-rounded understanding of dance movement and performance quality.

Mainstage Musical Theatre Camp is a fun-filled, intensive week that focuses on the elements of musical theatre. Students perform in large and small ensembles, learn choreography, staging, acting, and singing. The week culminates in a high-energy show performed on the Mainstage!

NKU Summer Adult String Orchestra is the place to be this summer for adult string players (18-99!) who enjoy making music in a relaxed, fun, and social environment! Musicians should have a fair understanding of their instrument, as rehearsals will focus on learning the repertoire and developing good ensemble techniques.
