Students are required to have their own 5-gallon buckets and drum sticks at home, and they will be provided with a PDF packet of rhythm manipulatives to print at home for hands-on use during class. Students will have an opportunity to come onto the NKU campus and play together in-person near the end of the Fall 2021 semester! Students who don’t live in the area can still join this “jam session” via Zoom. Students with no prior musical experience are welcome, along with students already involved in private lessons and/or ensembles. This is a great chance to have fun with drumming while also strengthening rhythmic skills!

Piano Power

Piano Power is an introduction to piano and the fundamentals of music in a fun learning environment! The class will engage children ages 7–9 for the entire academic year through creative musical activities including singing, movement, listening, and of course...playing the piano. It is designed to offer a foundation in music as children approach the age for selecting an instrument for focused study. Piano Power is a great way to determine if private lessons in piano are in your child's future! Spaces are limited.

String Sprouts

Jump Start Strings

String Sprouts is an introductory violin class that combines beginning violin instruction with music readiness activities all academic year long! Students will learn to express themselves musically through singing, moving, listening, composing, performing on mallet and rhythm instruments, and playing the violin. Students with no prior musical training are welcome, as are students already enrolled in private lessons and/or classroom music! Music notation will gradually be introduced using manipulatives and a hands-on, experiential approach. The combination of violin instruction and general music instruction will create a rich learning environment for all students, laying a solid foundation for future music reading and performance on any instrument. Violins for class use are provided!
