PLACEMENT TESTS

REQUIRED THEORY PLACEMENT TEST

As part of the NKU audition day experience, your background in music theory and musicianship will be assessed. This assessment is not factored into your music admission decision, but it does help determine what courses you should take. Please plan approximately 20-30 minutes to take a theory/musicianship placement test. This test is administered in Fine Arts Center 219 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All students wishing to major or minor in music are required to take this placement test during their audition day. We recommend students take the test as early as possible in the event that there is a wait to take the exam.

OPTIONAL CLASS PIANO PLACEMENT TEST

If you have at least six months of keyboard experience, keyboard/piano is NOT your primary instrument, and you are interested in placing out of some/all of the piano course requirements, please sign up for a piano placement test. If you do not have keyboard experience (or have limited experience), do not sign up for a piano placement test audition. Students with a primary instrument of piano do not need to sign up for a piano placement test audition.
