Certain health and safety issues, hazards, and procedures are inherent in music practice, performance, teaching, and listening. These include but are not limited to hearing health, vocal health, musculoskeletal health, and injury prevention. A primary factor in health and safety largely depends on personal decisions, and students are personally responsible for avoiding risk and preventing injuries to themselves during and after study at NKU School of the Arts.

The purpose of the Health & Safety Initiative at the NKU School of the Arts (SOTA) Music Program is to provide students and faculty with information regarding health and safety topics relevant to the practice, performance, teaching and listening of music.

This information is provided to address the accreditation standards of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) to increase awareness of the health and safety concerns of musicians. Further, NKU SOTA seeks to promote an environment of wellness among its faculty and students.
