The 2018 Pathways to Nursing summer camp has reached capacity.

Pathways to Nursing Summer Nurse Camp is for high school students (currently in grades 9 to 11) who are interested in a nursing career. Not only will you experience campus life at NKU, but you will also tour and observe many of the hospital units at St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

The first two days of camp will be spent at Northern Kentucky University learning about:

  • Basic nursing skills
  • Working with the electronic patients in the simulation laboratory
  • Roles and responsibilities of the nurse in various settings
  • Life as an NKU student in the College of Health Professions

Day three and four will be spent at St. Elizabeth, Edgewood and at the St. Elizabeth Education and Training Center shadowing nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers in various areas such as:

  • Emergency room
  • Labor and Delivery
  • Surgery
  • Intensive Care
  • Simulation Center

Summer Nurse Camp is a popular program and is limited to a maximum of 30 participants.  Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

 

Pathways to Nursing Summer Nurse Camp is presented by Northern Kentucky University and St. Elizabeth Healthcare.  This endeavor is funded by a University/Community Partnership Grant from Northern Kentucky University and Medtronic Corporation.  The purpose of this activity is to expose high school students to the many career opportunities in the field of nursing and encourage them to pursue such a career.
