Operating within the Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership, the NKU University Training Consortium (UTC) and the Training Resource Center (TRC) works collaboratively with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The TRC facilitates training, teaching, and promotion of organizational growth for human service workers throughout the Commonwealth. In this role, the TRC acts as a valuable link between the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) staff, university, and community partners. This valuable link to the resources at Northern Kentucky University provides opportunities to explore research involvement and grant opportunities. The TRC also provides service training and/or facilitation capacity for Cabinet learning initiatives for DCBS staff and foster parents.

The UTC/TRC staff assist the Department for Community Based Services in fulfilling their mission of providing leadership in building high-quality, community-based training systems that enhance safety, permanency, well being and self sufficiency for Kentucky’s families, children, and vulnerable adults. The TRC provides support and consultation to DCBS while serving as members of committees in the Northern Bluegrass Region and state-wide. These committees include the Family-to-Family Steering Workgroup, Building Community Partnerships, Recruitment Training & Support, Northern Kentucky Regional Network, as well as involvement in the Race & Community Child Welfare initiative.
