Max Boyle is a chemistry major performing research in the lab of Amber Onorato. His organic synthetic research has focused on the synthesis of naturally occurring diarylheptanoides as potential anti-inflammatory molecules. Such natural product work can have challenging synthetic obstacles to overcome, but Max’s dedication has led to significant progress and multiple presentations at scientific meetings.
Professor Onorato notes that Max “is knowledgeable, willing to work hard, and puts forth more than the necessary amount of effort to excel.” Max plans on attending medical school following graduation from NKU.
For the last four years around 60 students on average have engaged in research projects directed by faculty mentors. With faculty assistance, students have secured nearly $4M over the last six years alone! Their work is conducted in modern labs with more than $2M of instrumentation rarely found at similar institutions.
