More About Dr. Walters
I was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and lived in Waynesville (located in beautiful Western North Carolina) during my childhood. I attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where I obtained a B.S. (ACS Certified) degree in chemistry in 1996. While at Furman I did some undergraduate research under the direction of Professor Noel A.P. Kane-Maguire. I did my graduate work in inorganic physical chemistry at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, under the direction of Professor Kirk Schanze. I obtained my Ph.D. in chemistry in August, 2000. I then had a post-doctoral research position at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, under the direction of Professor Joe Hupp. I am now an assistant professor at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, right across the river from Cincinnati.
When I am not in the lab or office (not much time these days!), I enjoy the outdoors and attending church (especially working with the music program). I also enjoy travel (especially to National Parks), hiking, reading, and a variety of music. I am an only child, and my parents still live in Waynesville.
A few years ago, I had the distinct honor of marrying the most wonderful girl in the world, Lisa Jabaay. She finished her B.A. in criminal justice at NKU in May, 2004 and now works as a bankruptcy paralegal for Lerner, Sampson & Rothfuss, L.P.A. in downtown Cincinnati. Both of us enjoy geocaching (under the name Team Jazzy), camping, and hiking in our spare time. In addition to our cat Cameo, we also welcomed our son Andrew into the world on October 23, 2006.
