The Intercollegiate Athletics Program
provides a natural extension of secondary school
programs, offering skilled student athletes the
opportunity to continue their educational and
athletic experiences beyond high school. The
program functions at a level and in a manner that
projects a positive image for the University in the
community. Membership in the National
Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and
Great Lakes Valley Conference, and adherence to the
governing philosophies and regulations of these
bodies, provide a framework for implementing the
mission of the Department.
NKU sponsors intercollegiate competition in 13
varsity sports, six for men (baseball, basketball,
cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and
volleyball). In addition, the Department also
oversees the NKU student athletic training program,
cheerleading squads, and various athletic
administration work-study positions. All
totaled, close to 250 students. |
