Programs of Study
There are seven programs that lead to a major in theatre. The Department of Theatre and Dance offers the following programs of study:
Bachelor of Arts
A liberal arts-based degree ideal for the student who wishes to pursue multiple interests in theatre and dance. A minor field of study is required with this degree program.
Bachelor of Fine Arts
A more intensive study for the budding professional: acceptance into the B.F.A. program is earned through a process of application, interview and audition (performers) or portfolio submission (Design and Technology, Playwriting & Stage Mangement). The BFA degree requires active involvement in the department for a minimum of four semesters after acceptance into B.F.A. candidacy. Some exceptions to this rule of residency may be made for transfer students. A minor field of study is not required with this degree program. B.F.A candidates’ choose a specialization prior to auditioning. Areas of Specialization include: Acting, Dance, Musical Theatre, Technical Theatre and Design, Stage Management, and Playwriting.
