|
by Damon DiMarco
Damon earned his MFA in acting at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University under William Esper, who draws his teaching technique from his many years working with Sanford Meisner. Damon's acting resume includes regional theatre, television, industrial shows, live hosting, and independent films. He has held recurring roles on ne Life to Live and As the World Turns. Between 2000 and 2007, he taught acting at Drew University, his undergraduate alma mater. He's also taught acting at the New York Film Academy, and in private sessions.
In 1999, Damon was invited to participate as an actor in the pilot program for the New River Dramatists play development center in Healing Springs, North Carolina. Actors and writers in residence at Healing Springs work intensely to assist the playwright in whatever manner he or she prefers to bring new pieces to fruition. Inspired by this work, Damon broke from his acting mold and began to write. His first piece was a 1O-minute play called Tegwar, a card game between Jesus Christ and Judas Iscariot. Over the next few years, Damon helped a diverse group of brilliant playwrights including James McLure, Cassandra Medley, Meir Ribalow, M. Scott Momaday, Keith Bunin, Jack Heifner, Arthur Giron, Ann Nelson, Arlene Hutton, and Denis Johnson.
