Rhinoceros
![]() |
by Eugène Ionesco
a new translation by Martin Crimp
As the inhabitants of a small town turn into rinoceroses, the only human who does not succumb to this mass metamorphosis is, Bérenger, a flustered man who is often criticized for his drinking and tardiness. The trampling becomes louder as he remains, unable to change his form and identity. The sublime is confused with the ridiculous in this savage commentary on the human condition.
