BFA  Auditions/Interviews:

NKU Department of Theatre and Dance offers B.F.A degrees in the following areas:  


Acting, Dance, Design/Technology, Musical Theatre, Playwriting, and Stage Management


Any Student accepted by the University can register as a Bachelor of Arts Theatre Major.  Students Seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree must audition and be accepted as a BFA student.  


Performers – Actors, Singers, Dancers:



Please audition with material in your age and type range.

  1. Monologue not to exceed 60 seconds – REQUIRED (may be waived for prospective Dance B.F.A. students only) be advised: a timer will stop you if you exceed 60 seconds
  2. Selection of vocal music - OPTIONAL (An accompanist will be provided; please bring sheet music in correct key) please do not exceed 32 bars or three pages of music; you will be stopped if you exceed this limit
  3. Solo dance not to exceed 60 seconds – REQUIRED for prospective B.F.A. Dance students only: must include extensions, multiple turns, leaps and jumps (please bring music on CD disc) be advised: a timer will stop you if you exceed 60 seconds.
  4. Interview – REQUIRED

Technicians and Stage Managers:



  1.  Presentation of support material, i.e. portfolio, drawings, photographs, designs, plates, prompt scripts, concept narratives, etc. - REQUIRED (please notify us adhead of time if your need computer/projection equipment for your presentation)
  2. . Interview - REQUIRED

Playwrights:


  1. Representative dramatic writing sample - REQUIRED (this need not be an entire play!)
  2. Interview - REQUIRED
IMPORTANT: It is in your best interest to demonstrate as much versatility as possible within your presentation. While we do not necessarily expect you to be a polished performer, designer, technician, stage manager, or playwright, we are eager to explore your potential as a future student.
