INTRODUCTION TO SOLUTIONS OF STATISTICAL PROBLEMS
This site is designed to help STA 205 students and STA 212
students solve the problems they will encounter in their courses. Many students
are unsure as to how their solutions to problems should be presented, or
"written up". The main purpose of this site is to present example
solutions to the major types of problems students will encounter in their
statistics course. Students should use these examples as models when working
similar problems. In particular, this information will be used most effectively
if the following are considered.
- The structure of the solutions to the examples shown on this site
exemplify how the instructors of these courses expect students to present
solutions to such problems on quizzes and tests. Different instructors may
require slightly different structures. To obtain the maximum credit on any
problem, the method of solution required by your instructor must be
followed.
- Homework problems should be viewed as "practice quizzes" and
"practice tests". When writing the actual solution to any homework
problem, it should be solved with all the attention to detail as if it were
being answered on a test. Doing this will help ensure that a similar problem
will be solved correctly on a quiz or test.
- As stated before, this site is designed to help you know how to present a
solution to a problem. Although some comments are made about how certain
problems are solved, this site is
not
meant to be a tutorial on how to actually solve such problems. If
you do not know how to solve any problem, you should ask your instructor for
help.
