Shank, Ph.D.
Professor of Marketing in the College of Business, Dr. Matt Shank, joined the faculty at Northern Kentucky University in1991 and has served as chair from1999-2007. He also served as interim Director of the MBA Program in the College of Business in 2005. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Shank served as a marketing research manager at Maritz Inc., one of the top 15 largest marketing research companies in the country. In addition to his administrative and faculty roles at NKU, Dr. Shank was selected as an ACE Fellow and spent the 2003-2004 academic year at Vanderbilt University. The ACE Fellows Program is the nation’s premier higher education leadership development program that prepares senior leaders to serve American colleges and universities. Dr. Shank's teaching interests include sports marketing, consumer behavior and marketing research. His research interests are in the areas of sports marketing, consumer psychology, and marketing education. Currently, Dr. Shank is serving as the editor of Sports Marketing Quarterly, one of the premier academic journals in the sport management area. Recently, Prentice Hall published the fourth edition of Dr. Shank's Sports Marketing: A Strategic Perspective, a sports marketing textbook being used at universities across the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Shank’s research has appeared in, among other outlets, the Sports Marketing Quarterly, Journal of Sport Behavior, Journal of Professional Services Marketing, Advances in Consumer Research, Journal of Applied Business Research, and Journal of Marketing Education. In addition, Dr. Shank has served as a marketing consultant to over fifty businesses in a variety of industries and supervised over 100 student projects for the local business community.
